


With Quake owners all receiving a free download of the remaster on Steam, it seems likely that the game's multiplayer server population will be seeing a massive spike in the near future.Developed by the award-winning id Software, Quake® is the ground-breaking, original dark fantasy first-person shooter that inspires today’s retro-style FPS games. While enhanced graphics and free add-ons are lovely, the revival of the game's multiplayer component is arguably the remaster's most significant accomplishment. Quake's 4K remaster will hopefully breathe new life into the classic shooter. The franchise has not received a new installment since the 2017 arena shooter Quake Champions. While no such reboot of Quake has been revealed, it is possible that the newly-released remaster will act as a lead-in to a new installment in the shooter series. Developer id Software recently rebooted another of its iconic franchises, Doom, with the release of 2016's Doom and 2020's Doom Eternal. June 2021 marked the 25th anniversary of Quake's original release date, so many fans were already anticipating an exciting reveal at QuakeCon 2021. While an in-depth remaster of the original title is a great love-letter to its history, many fans were expecting to see a brand-new Quake installment announced during the event. The game's graphics have also been remastered with better lighting and new models, and each of these remastered features can be turned on or off at the player's leisure. Gamers who already own Quake will receive the enhanced edition for free. Very shortly after the reveal of the Quake remaster, the Steam version of the old-school game has been upgraded to the new remaster. This overhauled title will include cross-play multiplayer, dedicated online servers, two expansion packs and optional add-ons. August 19 marked the beginning of QuakeCon 2021, and appropriately the event was used to announce a 4K remaster of the original Quake. Zenimax is a holding company which owns numerous game development studios including The Elder Scrolls developer Bethesda Game Studios and id Software, the developer of Quake and Doom. Quake's fame and continued relevance is demonstrated by the name of QuakeCon, an annual event which celebrates Zenimax Game Studios and its various different gaming franchises.
